Against Me! New Zealand Tour May 2011
with Off With Their Heads and Special Guests, The Outsiders

"I was a teenage anarchist, but then the scene got too rigid. It was a mob mentality, they set their rifle sights on me".

... so says Tom Gable of Against Me! - the infamous American punk rock icons. Against Me! are bringing their new album White Crosses to New Zealand with two gigs in May - in Wellington and Auckland.

White Crosses characterises many of Gable's feelings of detachment from his former self. This is evident in the themes that run throughout White Crosses: disillusion, indifference and the idea of one's beliefs being shattered over time and with age.

From their beginnings as a solo project led by Tom Gabel, Against Me! Has long drawn influence from early acoustic protest music. After several 12" and 7" releases, they released the much-loved fan favourite, Reinventing Axl Rose in 2002. The underground hit integrated aspects of punk-rock, folk, and country into passionate anthems with strong political undertones. This was followed by As The Eternal Cowboy in 2003, and another stand-out, Searching for a Former Clarity in 2005. A subsequent headlining tour in support of the subjective, politically loaded album saw Against Me! playing every U.S. state, and signing with Sire Records in December 2005. 2007 saw the release of their fourth studio album, New Wave. It was the New Wave tour the same year that last saw Against Me! hitting the shores of Aotearoa, performing to sell-out crowds in Auckland and Wellington. They are currently touring in support of their fifth studio album, White Crosses, released by Sire/Warner in 2010, and produced by Butch Vig (Green Day, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins).

Get ready to dance like no one is watching, with one fist in the air, because Against Me! are bringing their anthemic sing-alongs back to New Zealand to make up for their cancelled 2010 tour. They will be joined, not only by their brand new drummer, the esteemed Jay Weinberg, but by Epitaph's favourite doomsayers, Off With Their Heads, and Wellington pop-punk pioneers, The Outsiders.

Off With Their Heads are a true example of a soon-to-be-huge band to keep an eye on. They've been described as "unpredictable, self-deprecating, beer-swigging, working class punk rock[ers that]... deliver honest rip-roaring punk rock in it's true form time and time again." Formed in 2002, Off With Their Heads are well on their way to carving out their own punk rock story with their modern take on vintage punk fueled anthems.

The Outsiders are New Zealand's premier punk band. Forming in 2008, from the ashes of several other successful New Zealand punk bands, The Outsiders bring years of experience to their song writing, and consistently deliver electric live performances. They continue to tour as often as they can, with their two and a half years together already taking them to Australia several times, Europe once, and playing at the prestigious Fest 9 in 2010, in Gainesville, Florida, followed by a U.S tour. In 2011 The Outsiders plan on releasing their second full-length album, and are currently planning further North American and European tours.

October 2010 saw Against Me! cancelling their New Zealand tour at the last minute due to personal and family issues, but they will definitely be returning for two shows in May this year. With recent set-lists featuring an impressive showcase of old and new material, fans are sure to be treated to favourites from much of their back-catalogue as well as their new songs. This is a tour that any Against Me! fan will lament missing!
