Iveta & Simone - Single Review: Corazon

24 Feb 2023 // A review by taffynz

Here's the thing. Pop isn't my bag. I likes me my 80's metal, 70's metal and rock, and a lot of indie. I'm also someone who recognises when a song and an artist are professionals, and when a product is packaged and delivered as it should be. This song is commercial dynamite, and should be pushed by all concerned as far as possible.

Iveta & Simone, one Bulgarian and the other New Zealander, are dripping with talent, professionalism and experience. The powerful twin-vocal lead on this single Corazon will blow your mind. With a Latino undertone that brings Shakira to mind, the vocal timbre and final delivery makes me think of that oh so fabulous force of nature Lady Gaga herself.

I haven't been supplied with the info on the recording location or personnel, but they have delivered a great pop song. Well effected guitars (not affected, I'm on about the pedals used!) and a strong, pumping rhythm section drive a compelling, slightly menacing number that will not fail to get you dancing when it's turned up and there's space to move. Mixed and mastered to pop perfection, this is commercial gold, and should be picked up by commercial radio immediately.

If high-energy pop with a Latino feel sounds like something you'd like to listen to, this will make your day. If you're in doubt - try it: it'll make you a believer. Great song! I hope it does well.

Save The Blessings For The Final Ring!

Cautionary Tales - Single Review: Women
15 Jun 2023 // by taffynz
One of the things I love about this job is that music is such a giver. I listened to the opening first few bars of Cautionary Tales' new single release Women and I was nodding me old head along with the sinister, wonderfully balanced intro - then vocalist/keys man Will Marshall kicked in with his opening lines.

I still have my original late 70's 7" vinyl single of I Got You by Split Enz, despite emigrating to these shores in early 1997. I wasn't even a teenager in the late 70's.
