man...its the best BDO lineup in history, i've been to the past 7 and this is easily gonna kick all o their asses. It's no surprise they have all sold out except Perth and Auckland (which is going to sell out soon)

The first BDO had Soundgarden and a young Smashing Pumpkins. That makes it the best ever. Period.

My personal fav was when I got to see The Living End, Queens of the Stone Age, and Deftones in one afternoon (the three bands I was really there for, and they were all within a similar timeframe *WOOT*)

Hmmmm, I used my browser's search function, and it didn't return any results for Che Fu, Rammstein or Kraftwerk.

I just tried them all using the search in my browser and they are all there.

Remember that Wikipedia is but no means 100% accurate, but it's a nice guide. It was interesting reading back through and comparing the years.

Promoters have today unveiled two of the most essential pieces in the Big Day Out puzzle for 2008 – the site map and stage times for the one day music festival in Auckland on Friday 18 January.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Download BDO 2008 Site Map
Download BDO Timetable

OTHER STUFF: It is possible to turn up at the Big Day Out in as little as a bikini with an eftpos card and have yourself a great day. When you need a break from the moshpit, go get your favourite star's autograph down at the Real Groovy Signing Tent (look out for the schedule published just the before the day), or have their name tattooed on your body in the marketplace before showing it off on one of the amusement rides in the marketplace. And when you need to refuel there is always plenty on offer in all corners of the Big Day Out. Stuff your face with ice cream in the garden bar, hot dog, chips and candyfloss from our street vendors or keep your motor running with something tasty from the International Food Fair. Go hard, have fun and make it your own Big Day Out. True.

Big Day Out Approaches Sell-Out With Last Ticket Release

All 43,000 pre-sale tickets to next week’s Big Day Out are expected to be sold by this Friday, making the Big Day Out a pre-sale sell-out for the second consecutive year.

The promoters have decided to release the last 2,000 gate sale tickets through Auckland and online outlets next week. These tickets are $140 + booking fees and will be available from Ticketek and Real Groovy Records.

“We traditionally hold the gate sales tickets for the day of the show but we’d like to gives people a last chance to get tickets without having to run the risk of coming to Mount Smart Stadium on the day of the show and missing out,” said Big Day Out promoter, Campbell Smith.

If these tickets are all sold through outlets before the Big Day Out on Friday 18 January, there will be no gate sales at the stadium on the day.

REAL GROOVY’S BIG DAY OUT SIGNING TENT

According to 19 year-old Rebecca Bardoux, no Big Day Out is complete without the chance to collect an autographed CD from one of your favourite artists at the Real Groovy Signing Tent.

“Last year I didn’t even have to spend like more than a few minutes in the queue which was fine anyway ‘cause my friend Taylor Hayes wanted to be with me and so we didn’t even need to text each other while we were together and we also saw Nicky Watson while we were waiting there.. She was talking to a security guy ‘cause she was looking for the singing tent, which I think is on the other side of the stadium isn’t it? And anyway I left Mt Smart with two signed CDs plus all the guys from Muse had written stuff around my piercings and the Rabble had autographed my tattoo.”

Line up this year at the Real Groovy Records Signing Tent up on the top field alongside the Green Stage to collect autographs from a swag of Big Day Out bands wherever you want them.

The Real Groovy Records Signing Tent line-up and times will be updated regularly over the next week. Check the Real Groove and The Rock websites daily. The full line up will be published on Wednesday 16 January. Already confirmed are:

Anti-Flag, Shihad,Op Shop, Bleeders, The Checks, The Electric Confectionaires, Cut off Your Hands and Die! Die! Die!

You must have a Real Groovy Signing Card to enter the signing tent. You can get a signing card by buying a BDO ticket or a BDO artist CD at Real Groovy. Please note that Sounds signing cards will be valid.

THE AESTHETICS TAKE THE LAST BIG DAY OUT PRIZE

Dunedin band The Aesthetics won the bnet competition to be the last band announced to perform at this year’s Big Day Out.

Over the past month, bnet audiences have been voting to put bands forward in a race that has rivaled the US election primaries for intensity and vitriol, if not promotional spending.

“If some bands could be called the Hilary Clinton of this competition, the Aesthetics have powered home with a Mick Huckabee-like performance to take this prize,” said Big Day Out promoter Campbell Smith.

Given the closeness of the vote, rivals chased the last wavering voters in a bid to give their campaigns crucial momentum and take the prize of the coveted slot opening the Big Day Out at Auckland’s Mt Smart stadium in two weeks’ time.

Reports from Radio One suggest that The Aesthetics main man Matt Middleton picked up Barack Obama’s mantra of "Walk quick, talk fast," as he urged his supporters out to drum up support for him in the Dunedin cold.

Campbell Smith suggested that if there is any band who sum up the mood of our times, it could be The Aesthetics, who have outlined their motto on their website as “to keep the moronic in vogue, in focus.”

“if you can’t see the morons directly in front of you, take a good long look in the mirror,” said Smith.

The finalists from the other BNet Stations are:

BFM - THE HOT GRITS
RADIO ACTIVE - HOLIDAY WITH FRIENDS
RDU - THE DELORIANS
RADIO CONTROL - BLACK CHROME
MOST FM - BILLY RUBIN & CURSOR
