Will McClean is a Hip-Hop artist from Wellington, New Zealand.
Will McClean’s insightful lyricism is mellow but hard hitting; taking time to say what matters; and by taking a look through his discography you’ll find a blend of vulnerable raps with uplifting aspirations, set against smooth sample-based instrumentals; mixed in with the occasional heavier hip-hop track.
“Insightful lyricism and electric live performances.” - Sniffers.
Since 2020, he has performed on stage with Che Fu, Diggy Dupé and Troy Kingi, and appeared at various New Zealand festivals including Tora Bombora, That Weekend and Twisted Frequency.
Will’s late father was the frontman for a band that formed in the 80’s called The Vaccuum and is a big part of McClean’s inspiration to continue his musical legacy.
Having also been surrounded by music in his home for the majority of his life, Will says
“with Mum blasting artists like Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill and Fat Freddy’s Drop all day, everyday; I used to be rapping and singing along and it ultimately made me gravitate to creating some flows for myself.”
His ever expanding list of inspirations consist of the likes of Tom Scott, Loyle Carner, J Cole to name a few.
McClean’s latest single Ego Prison was released at the end of April ’22 and he is currently recording and mixing a six track EP, which is set for release this coming summer.
He is steadily making his way through more speakers and onto more stages around New Zealand and beyond.
