Lucifer Gunne - Gig Review: Lucifer Gunne @ Valhalla, Wellington - 19/07/2019

21 Jul 2019 // A review by Lexa.Dixon

Banding Together: Rock and Metal for Christchurch, a charity event for the victims of the Christchurch mosque shootings took place on the 19th of July at a little venue called Valhalla. This event included five of Wellington's most iconic Rock and Metal bands.

I have been following one of those bands, Lucifer Gunne, closely for a while now and it was on this night that I finally got to see them perform live. Their act was a memorable and acoustical highlight of the evening.

Lucifer Gunne performed in front of an almost sold-out Valhalla, with their fans moshing and jumping around all in good spirits. During their set they included their soon-to-be-released single Ha Ha Ok Ok which excited the audience even more, especially when the band gave away a t-shirt to the fan that moshed the most.

Other than their new single, they also played classics such as HRM and Energenetic - to be able to hear their new songs live was an awesome experience!

At 18 years old, these guys clearly have what it takes to become world class musos. The skill, passion and energy they have is well beyond their years.

They produce a massive sound with great guitar riffs, driving bass and pounding drums - you would be silly to miss out seeing their live performance.

So, please check them out and follow them. Lucifer Gunne are currently in the studio working on their first album, so this is really only the start of their journey. Amazing things are about to happen for this incredible act.

About Lucifer Gunne

Lucifer Gunne is an alternative rock band formed in Wellington, New Zealand, founded by Rory McDonald

Starting out solo, Rory, worked on the first EP, The Red King with the idea of a whole band sound, rather than a solo project in mind. A couple of months after the release debut EP, he met the guitarist (Don Mackenzie) and ex-drummer (Henry Thomas) in the crowd at a pixies concert. They played their first show at Valhalla on March 30th 2017 and have been playing, gigging, practicing and recording ever since. The current lineup consists of Rory McDonald (Lead vocals, Bass Guitar), Don Mackenzie (Rhythm Guitar), Steve Henwood (Lead Guitar) and Jackson Kidd (Drums)

Lucifer Gunne has now disbanded.

Wellington four-piece band Seismic State have just released their first EP State of Things, and if this is what they sound like, they have a big and bright future ahead of them. State of Things is an outstanding four-track EP, with each and every song giving a little bit more oomph than the previous track.

The night was Saturday, 20th July and a crowd was lined up ready to enter San Fran for a night of their lives, because none other than New Zealand rock legends, Villainy, were about to set the roof on fire! Opening with Raised In The Dark, the crowd was full of energy and it was quickly proven that having Raised In The Dark as the first song of the night was a very wise choice!
