Seismic State - EP Review: State of Things

17 Sep 2019 // A review by Lexa.Dixon
Wellington four-piece band Seismic State have just released their first EP State of Things, and if this is what they sound like, they have a big and bright future ahead of them.

State of Things is an outstanding four-track EP, with each and every song giving a little bit more oomph than the previous track.

Bridges - with an epic guitar intro, this song definitely captivated me from the beginning. Even the instrumental in the middle of the song is a treat for any listener.

Since We Last Spoke - I had the chance to check this track out recently, and my views haven’t changed. It’s still a really awesome song that has a brilliant groove about it. You can check out my review on this song here.

Forty Five - This track is slower than the others, but it’s still captivating and has real emotion behind it. This is definitely a song most people could sing along to.

Genius - This is another sweet track! Genius closes off the EP, and just makes you want more. It feels as if the guitar is trying to trigger something inside of you and bring you out into the world, meanwhile Nicole's voice talks directly to your soul.

All I can say after listening to this EP is I definitely want to hear more - this is a perfect album with an excellent mix of instruments complete with Nicole's outstanding voice. It's an excellent choice for a perfect night out - so be sure to check them out when they come and visit your town.

You can download State of Things on all the usual music platforms.

About Seismic State

Formed in early 2018 by former members of Auckland band Dirty Riot; Sai Soe (guitar) and Liam Wright (bass) were joined by Matthijs van Dijk (drums) and Nicole Hardie (vocals & guitar) and they immediately got to work writing and gigging in and around Wellington.

Their style mixes rock with elements of funk, progressive and alternative as they combine riff-oriented guitar with melodic basslines and driving drum rhythms forming a foundation for creative vocal melodies and thought-provoking lyrics. The result is an accessible and sonically pleasing brand of rock music.

Seismic; Adjective, of enormous proportions or effect.
