Phil @ capitol C has a relationship with Chirstchurch/wellington and NP

hes puit elton john at welly and NP

Bon Jovi in CCH and rock2 wellington in where else but wellington

hes done E.J in auckland but i think hel go for CCh on this one

n you cant count out english bands etc just because hes backed by a company in the u.s.a, look at the lineup last time they wernt exactly all from the u.s.a

Hi. Bigmachine No they weren't all from the USA strictly. However Lordi was on tour with Ozzy who lives in the USA & Whitesnake , though Coverdale is english is for all intents & purposes I guess you;'d say an American band. They all live there even Coverdale.
Would be great to see a NWOBHM line up , with the resurgence of a few of the bands from that era reforming & making come backs. The lieks of Angelwitch, Raven, Soldier, Tank, Samson, but of course that wouldn't sell.

Be great to see the next line up[. An announcement won't be fara way I guess.

back on the first page i put together a totally bullsh!t lineup for the next festival just off the top of my head and people were complaining that i didn't have any "relevent" or new bands that are in with the kiddies whcih is another reson why they think rock2welly was a huge success. so far all the bands ive heard suggested have, shall we say "past their use by date". hey i LOVE oldschool banda and im not knocking them but if what other people were saying maybe we should consider some more recent bands.

on a side note i would totally love to see rob zombie at a festival like this, i know that aint goin 2 happen but im just saying......

Why bother with "Modern bands"? Thats what BDO & Southern Ampa re about.
Rock2Wgtn was aimed at a certain demographic, the demographic with the money. Plus if it was to stand out as a different festival in its own right from nbeing just another BDO or Southern Amp that what it has to do. Those type of fgestivals are huge in europe. Yes I knwo you'll say the population is bigger, but the point is there is a market for them & the bands do the festivals world wide. Whitesnake came from europe to Rock2Wgtn from this type of festival.
Bands of that ilk are more likely to play a festival than come here for a one off tour.
I'd pick the chnaces of Iron Maiden playing NZ again would be slim as a stand alone concert but as part of a festival things could be different.
The bands are guranteed payment. Its not them on the line if tickets don't sell. They love it.
You think Ozzy would have come here if it had be his own gig? Not a chance.

i totally agree with you, i prefer the old school rock fests as oposed to bdo and the like. but thats just me and i can't speek on behalf of the new zealand population. besides over the two days of rock@wgtn more tickets were sold than a sold out bdo.

IMO, Rock2Wgtn lacked only in:

* Timing - Easter weekend wasn't smart, people don't really holiday in Wellington, and easter trading restrictions meant that the local bars couldn't support the act, nor did the council really roll out the red carpet either.
To add to this, homegrown waterfront festival was on the prior weekend, and the basin reserve was packed on the same weekend for another music event, too many people spent out already.

* Acts - Both nights needed one more big act, agree with some that perhaps a 'Van Halen' or 'Def Leffard' would've made both nights a HUGE success regardless of the timing.

I hope there is another, the 2008 teething problems learnt would be invaluable for future big events. A good idea would've been having small stages setup inside the huge interior stadium walkways for local acts. FFT

Yes, a NWOBHM event would be great. Iron Maiden should headline, especially as they missed out NZ earlier this year. I saw the in London a couple of months ago and they were brilliant!

As for newer bands I think Rammstein could pull it off, they've a new album pending and they put on a good stadium show.

And as for the BDO being for 'younger' artists, maybe you're right ........Neil YOUNG.....ha ha....the silence is killing me!

Good call mate. They're the kind of epic live band with all the bells & whistles to make it perfect for such an event. I saw them in 2000 (or was it 2001?) at the BDO and they were simply awesome. Even if you aren't into their sounds you're still in for a visual treat.

Pretty simple really Rasher....The promotors probably the same bonehead that booked a rap band in CHCH & a metal band in auckland at the same time as per a previous post & had em both cancelled due to piss poor ticket sales!

Yes, Slipknot is going to be cool, hope Joey's foot gets fixed in time!

And yes, Roadie I know what you mean, some promoters need to do their research properly first. Although some metal bands do do well in Auckland like the recent Korn and Disturbed shows. And in the hip-hop department Snoop sold well and 50 Cent sold, around 50 PERcent....!!

I guess it's the individual acts rather than a paticular genre but Priest were never going to sell out the Vector.

I'm kinda half-glad Priest didn't happen now.

I really don't want to have my favourite bands ruined by the terrible acoustics in that building.

i don't know what you are talking bout, i went to korn and it wasnt even close to selling out, they didnt even open up the top two sections of the arena. i ddn't go to disturbed coz i saw them in 06 when they sold out the auckland town hall (not a massive feat in itself).

Heh, I'm just looking at the bright side. At least I didn't see them sounding utterly horrible. Like The Cure, one of my favourite bands, yet my friends that went said the sound damn near ruined it for them.

Put 'em on hold, so I'm crossing my fingers for another decent show coming our way. We very nearly switched our tix to Slipknot/Machine Head, but decided against it.

I'm kinda hoping for a non-Auckland gig. I've flown up there more times than I care to remember.
