yes, I think he's their touring guitarist, not sure if he is actually in the band.

I haven't seen the video, but that is probably Jason White, the tour guitarist. If you listen carefully to Green Day's songs, you can hear that they couldn't possibly only have one guitar!

Yeah I guess it is obvious that there is more than one guitar in their songs but I guess I always thought that a second guitarist in most "3 piece" bands were just playing behind the scenes so that they atleast still look like a 3 piece band

well, he'd have to be playing in david letterman, because the touring guitarist has to play whenever green day's playing live

Man I hate "3 piece" bands that lie about how many pieces they are. I mean for goodness sake just be a 4 piece band instead of a 3 piece plus 1 band.

hmm Jason just likes to stay out of the spotlight though. He says "I'm just a helping hand to the band; it's all about them three"
Billie Joe has said "He'll be playing with us for this tour, but we're not going to a four-member band from now on." Jasons going to carry on working with Green Day whilst they are on the American Idiot tour, after that he is going to be recording new material with The Influents.

yeah, but Jason doesnt write any of the music, so he's just a touring guitarist, which doesnt really make him a contributing band member, music making/recording wise...except when theyre playing live
