Band & Musician News - Parachute Band host Serbia's first-ever worship concert

18 August 2010 - 0 Comments

The Auckland-based band were the first major international Christian band to play live in the nation, taking to the stage in Serbia's second biggest city Novi Sad.

Parachute Band's Tour Manager Callum Galloway says, "This was literally history in the making. Never before has Serbia hosted a Christian worship concert. This was a milestone in the Serbian Christian calendar, and it was truly a privilege for all of us to be part of it."

The band delivered pop-rock worship with electric guitars, loud synths, and colourful video screens.

All went without hitch until drummer Sam de Jong broke a drum skin and had to fix it mid set, but the 250-strong crowd didn't miss a beat.

Serbia gained independence in 2006, after having a State Union with Montenegro. The nation's former President,Slobodan Miloševiæ had led Serbia (and Yugoslavia) for 11 years up until 2000, when he was charged with War Crimes for his involvement in the Kosovo War.

Parachute Band
embarked on their current European tour two weeks ago, which will see them playing throughout England, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Holland and Germany.

They are playing at a range of events, including public worship concerts and church events.
