Indie rockers MudBelly’s catchy new single 'Sludge' ushers in a thumping new sub-genre of rock

Following on from their welcome debut album, the new single from Christchurch-based indie rockers MudBelly is an edgy thumper of a track. Containing the gnarliest of riffs, with lyrics conjuring up images of free spirits, Sludge was produced by the talented Toby Lloyd, and is truly a sound for the highway, with the windows well down. Amps were pushed far beyond capacity with the uncontrolled sound embellished by the use of several unorthodox percussive instruments. The accompanying video is also highly entertaining - 3 minutes of payback to a gang of wayward inflatable baby sharks (who knew those suckers were evil).

With MudBelly it’s messy, sassy and heavy. Like Winehouse dipped into a vat of Hendrix: cranking riffs, soaring vocals and raw emotional energy make this band just a little mesmerizing.

“Mudbelly are a dynamic force to be reckoned with, unleashing their fearless vibrant rock. Gritty, nostalgic, sexy rock - Five stars ***** ” - Corinne Rutherford, Muzic.net.nz
