D.Maleek

Bio

Auckland based artist D.Maleek started writing poems from a very young age, which eventually grew into writing lyrics. Originally from East Palo Alto, California, (part of what is called the Bay Area) D.Maleek moved to NZ in 2011. He started to take his music more seriously after he felt his vocals were developed enough in 2018. His father and wife are big supporters - they motivated him to take his music further.

D.Maleek's first solo single My Girl dropped in 2019, which he wrote, recorded, and mixed himself in his home studio. My Girl is a reggae song with a old school hook sample he sang on the track No Diggetty by Blackstreet. The video got him noticed by local Auckland artist Ty from Smashproof. D.Maleek is now working closely with Ty on upcoming music.

D.Maleek has dropped a new debut single he co-wrote called Broken Dreams, which features Punjabi Rapper RD and brings a bit of Desi Hip-Hop to New Zealand. Embarking on a musical journey with his music, D.Maleek is influenced by Akon, Bob Marley and other Bay Area rappers such as E-40 and Mac Dre.
