Alexey Medvedev

Bio

Alexey Medvedev is a recent immigrant to NZ from Moscow who plays acoustic guitar with an extremely polished and unique percussive fingerstyle. His first love is rock but he also plays jazz, blues, pop and folk and sings in both Russian and English and also plays balalaika and piano.

Alexey's accomplishments in music are very substantial having trained in top Russian academies and composed for both Russian and Ukrainian Television. One of his last gigs before moving his family to Dunedin where he now resides was to play for Mikhail Gorbachev at the former Soviet leaders 70th birthday in 2000.

Alexey has just begun to show his immense talents to kiwi audiences and has been seen at the Christchurch and Dunedin Folk clubs, the Whare Flat and Whitestone Music festivals and very recently stunned an enraptured audience at Oamaru's Penguin Club where he sold his entire stock of CD's that were originally recorded in Moscow. He hopes soon to record a new CD featuring more of his original pieces here in NZ.
