Big Tasty - Single Review: Diamond Eyed

Auckland based 9-piece funk and soul band Big Tasty have just released a groovy disco inspired track with an epic full sound. Diamond Eyed is possibly one of the best original 70's soulful disco beats I have come across in a very long time.


Energetic and passionate this band certainly delivers on a big, lush sound that is made up of many different layers. Out of this world musicianship is abundant, as they manage to cohesively pull off a tight and superbly formed sound. Diamond Eyed is the 2022
version of a funked up Goldfinger. If you are after a trip down memory lane this track delivers the nostalgic sound in spades with a solid disco beat.

The 9 members are led by the powerful vocals of Manuela Ovalle Herrera and boy can she belt it out. A truly stunning vocalist which compliments an entire rhythm section. As you can clearly hear on Diamond Eyed the horns, guitars and percussion flawlessly complement each other.

The lyrics are well written and flow together nicely, but it’s the beat and rhythm of the entire soundscape which is magic. I did happen to come across a cheeky lyric video on a Big Tasty social media page for Diamond Eyed which is a bit of a giggle.

Diamond Eyed is passionate and bold, vibrant and lively and I can just imagine the band is a sight to behold live.

I Loved every second of this track and would thoroughly recommend a listen.
