Andrew Fagan and The People announce Auckland release show

21 January 2020 - 0 Comments

Returning with gleeful lyrical antagonism and emotional insight, and never one to favour an understated approach, one of the pioneers of Kiwi New Wave Andrew Fagan presents his new album Act Normal as Andrew Fagan and The People, out February 14th, 2020 on Southbound.

Today Fagan announces a rare Auckland release show at Anthology Lounge on Friday 21st February, with support from local upstarts Snapper and Chips.

Tickets are on-sale now from Undertheradar ($23 + booking fee).

An eccentric showman who has never conformed to the usual New Zealand style of performance; not much has changed for this seasoned veteran of the stage. “Good songs and showing off are not mutually exclusive concepts,” says Fagan.

In October 2019, Fagan shared a sardonic take on the social media era, releasing four versions of On Channel Me through Facebook and YouTube, letting fans choose the version to appear on the finished version of the album. This was followed by ‘Act Normal’ the title track single in November 2019.

Andrew Fagan and The People - Act Normal

Fagan’s career spans over 40 years, from his time as frontman of punk rock group The Ambitious Vegetables and New Wave group The Mockers to his ongoing solo career. His solo material over the years, performing with his band Fagan and The People, includes laconic social commentary classics such as Exciting, Astonishment, Now You Know, Blame Me, Get Light, Religion, Messiah and Jerusalem.

Fagan’s last release, the spoken word album of poetry titled It Was Always Going To Be Like This coincided with his New Zealand tour with British poet John Cooper Clarke in 2018.

See Andrew Fagan and The People live at Anthology Lounge, Karangahape Road, Auckland on Friday 21st February to celebrate the release of new album Act Normal.
