Bio

With passionate acoustic guitar driven songs and evocative storytelling, New Zealand’s Ravenhall speaks directly to listener’s hearts. By embracing an experimental electronic edge, they push the boundaries of traditional singer/songwriter music to create a sound that is wholly authentic and unique.
Founding members Joe Ravenhall and Chris Brebner are both veterans of Auckland’s music scene, with several years of history collaborating on a variety of projects. With Ravenhall they sought to embrace the emotional lyricism and open hearted melodies that drew them to music in the first place. After writing over a hundred songs together, they recruited Damian Hilt on drums and Alan Treanor on the bass, each one bringing their own dynamic personality to fill out the band’s sound.
After spending many years performing together across New Zealand, Ravenhall made their official debut in 2015 with the release of their single Everything To Me. From there they went on to release a series of singles expanding on their signature sound while continuing to build an audience in their home country. Currently the band is working on a new EP which will introduce their intricately crafted songwriting to new listeners in New Zealand and beyond.

Colour the Stars
Can you hold this bottle for a while
While we colour out the sky
And we will read aloud for a little while
Before we fall into the night
& I will wander on my own
Though I never should have left what I could have known
& now I want to believe all that I hear
Then I’ll move on another year
Can you hold this bottle for a while
While I dance among the stars
We can scream aloud for a little while
To cover up our scars
& while I breath you’ll never be alone
What we share is more than flesh and bone
From the moment that you opened up your eyes
I was standing there
Now I’ll move on to another year.

My Love
I never seen your eyes so blue
I never swore I had a clue
I never dreamed of running away
I never prayed a single day
Now we’re both left wanting
On the edge of nothing
We swore we’d see this through
I never held my breath before
I never wanted something more
I never dreamed I’d hold on to
All the love I found in you
So will this love lift us up
Will this love tear these walls down
We never want it to stop
And will this love that we got rain down
So hold your hand in mine
We’ll levae this all behind
And soon you’ll release
You are my love

Recorded with Jeremy Redmore (Midnight Youth) & Hayden Taylor (York St Head Engineer) on Aucklands North Shore, Ravenhall have produced a fresh new sound intertwining the best elements of acoustic folk with pop melodies.
Following the recording session undertaken at Studio by the City in Birkenhead, Ravenhall sought out Jamie McKenzie and his team of expert story tellers and film makers at Pure Productions to help encapsulate their music on screen. Jamie expertly crafted the story and captured it beautifully in the Waitakere ranges at KareKare falls & beach.

Smile
I’ll take your memory to a cemetery, bury you all alone And though we never said forever we’re together But we found ourselves alone
So tomorrow drown our sorrows in, this fine wine we stole I’ll resign to what my eyes lied and said they wanted all along
I’ll take any from the many just to remove it from us all And through design I’ll remind you to resign just to rewind what we saw
If I’m granted all the answers then what is the point at all?
To survive but realise that desire is the pride before the fall
All these lights are blinding my eyes
I swore I’d never let you go
And our life in the rearview shines
You went and left me high & dry
Cause out life never made you smile
I’m forgetting why Im buried in a lesson that I taught Remind me why I sided with the coward but confided in the strong
I see reflections of obsession in the memory that I hold I found the favorite gift you gave me was denial Of the only thing I sought.
