Ghost Score - EP Review: 00

11 Apr 2024 // A review by Thane Pullan

I found Ghost Score's new EP 00 to have a variety of sound. Even though, this was a four track EP, some of the tracks sounded quite different to each other. This shows that Ghost Score is a versatile artist.

Nocturne has several nice tunes to it. The only thing resembling vocals is an echo of a woman in the middle. It sounds trancey near the end, but not the ear bleeding kind. I wouldn't have a problem with it if it were that type, though. I think it sounds uplifting.

Sciagraph sounds just a tad louder, and I think that this more resembles techno with a prominent repetitive tune. This tune sounds fast. In later parts of the track, there is another tune overlapping it. This is four notes repeating with slight variations.

Colour Emerge sounded like it started off with a bit of funk. This could be the most interesting sounding track with a few different types of echoes going on. This definitely feels a bit busier than half of the tracks. It has a darker feel to it, at least in my opinion.

Doppler sounds more like drum and bass to me, Though people may completely disagree with my take. It’s definitely slower than DnB. The beat is quite loud on this. There are also a few different tunes within this piece, which interact quite nicely with it.

I would describe these tracks generally as non-vocal house, with a touch of other genres. It was a nice mix of sound. I usually listen to ear bleeding trance, so the tracks were a bit quieter than my usual.

As a DJ, I could definitely see myself playing a few of these as part of the journey.

I would be interested in hearing more from Ghost Score. The rhyme was unintentional.

Boardgames for Blondes - Album Review: On The Run
25 Feb 2024 // by Thane Pullan
I found the band Boardgames for Blondes to be a natural sounding band, as opposed to modern day electronic music. The majority of the lyrics are actually understandable, unlike some other modern pop songs out there.

Ivy Christchurch show opened with Ragweed and closed with a DJ duo playing house tracks. Ragweed was more of a head bangy set.

Moofish - Album Review: Entropia
08 Dec 2023 // by Thane Pullan
The music that is on Moofish's newest album Entropia consists of slow songs. Honestly, I couldn't really understand most of the lyrics, but that is not rare with music these days.
