Citris iNK - Single Review: Last Night Replay

27 Jun 2023 // A review by Madeleine Howard

RnB, Neo-soul duo Citris iNK released their second single Last Night Replay on the 9th of June.

The duo comprises of Auckland born multi-instrumentalist Nick Taylor and South African singer-songwriter Kristin Paulse. Taylor has over ten years' experience in the industry as a bassist playing for the likes of Andrea Lisa, Ronald Bruner Sr (The Temptations) and George ‘Funky’ Brown (Kool and the Gang.) Paulse has a background in musical theatre, having performed all over New Zealand. The pair have combined their wide range of experience to form Citris iNK.

Last Night Replay follows on from the group’s debut single Knowing You’re Mine, which was released in September 2022. Their debut is catchy and nostalgic, and Last Night Replay follows on with this same formula, but brings a sensual, cheeky vibe as well as an authentic RnB sound. Paulse’s vocals are front and centre, accompanied by luscious harmonies and nineties RnB inspired instrumentation. The track is smooth and sexy sounding, oozing with flirtatious lyrics.

Produced by Mo'Dre who has worked with big names like TLC and Keri Hilson to name a few, Last Night Replay is highly polished and professional sounding. While the duo are currently apart, with Paulse based in Australia and Taylor in Auckland, it is unclear what is on the horizon for Citris iNK. In the meantime, we can thoroughly enjoy Last Night Replay, and hope we don't have to wait too long for the next chapter in this duo's journey. Whatever happens, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
