Auckland 7-piece band, Corrella are back and this time they’ve bought with them their brand new album, Road From 26.
The 9 track album is quite simply, a stunner.
Already seasoned at their craft, their passion and talent for summery Reggae, RnB, Roots tunes and great vibes are evident. Not ones to shy away from beautiful harmony and melody either, Road From 26 has this aplenty.
If you’re a fan of L.A.B and Six60, then you might have an idea of what to expect, but don’t let the larger than life legends of Kiwi music sway your musical judgment. Corrella are uniquely their own and have their own flavour to share. They execute it beautifully and from start to finish, it’s a great journey to listen to.
Starting off with upcoming single, Whiskey- a super catchy and soulful tune that instantly turns bad moods into good times. Lyrically, I love how literal it is. Sometimes some of the best songs are just simply that. No second guessing here.
Merging further in, tracks like Skankin’ (their previously released single) are just as sweet. There is something about a simplistic groove that just resonates with wanting to move your body.
Lead vocalist, Rebecca Brady’s vocals on Little Circles are just divine. Also one of their earlier released singles, it never ceases to amaze me how much heart and soul is in her voice.
Finishing off such a strong album is never easy when deciding what to put as the last track and they’ve hit the nail on the head without taking anything away from such a solid musicianship.
Promise is such a simply yet great tune that fits well nestled in at the end. Lead singer, Pipiwharauroa Campbell has great range and melody.
A beautiful, well-rounded album with so much hidden gems. Uncover all there is by giving this a few listens in a row and follow it up with seeing them live when you can.
Corrella are a 7-piece band based in Auckland, New Zealand.
They have a summery vibe to their music, which can be heard across Aotearoa. They take inspiration from bands like L.A.B, Six60 and Tomorrow People, while trying to create their own sound.
Corrella's music can be found on all major streaming platforms.
