SHAYNA - Single Review: Alchemy Feat. Rei

26 Feb 2021 // A review by Corinne Rutherford

Christchurch singer-songwriter SHAYNA has teamed up with Wellingtonian hip-hop artist Rei to create a slick new single Alchemy. Described as "Pop & RnB hooks over a progressive bass line & glittery high-level production", this is a track which flows seamlessly.

SHAYNA’s achievements with her previous releases Miles Away and I Know have seen her popularity steadily grow, both in New Zealand and globally. Alongside her on this single is multi-award winning bilingual artist Rei who is a success in his own right with his own style of Maori pop music.

Alchemy definitely has the RnB vibe, it is a smooth radio ready track accompanied by a music video by Kwasnik Pictures, showing both the artists dripping in gold (paint that is) this is a reflection of the lyrics which tell a tale of "making gold out of nothing" and "synchronizing pleasure" or the manifestation of desires and creation of abundance through connection. Whatever way you look at it, the visuals are a glittery mirror of the song.

SHAYNA is an established touring songwriter and musician who is taking the NZ pop charts by storm, I am confident her latest offering will be well received by her many fans.

Rating: ( 4 / 5 )

About SHAYNA

“She already projects the image of a star at the top of the game – if she continues as is, that’s exactly where she’ll end up.” - Happy Mag (AU)

“The next best pop party to come out of New Zealand” – Music Nation (NZ)

A “melancholic view of an OE” has inspired New Zealand singer-songwriter SHAYNA’s new single Miles Away. “Travelling the globe with a sole companion and seeing the best and worst in each others characters as you are both exhausted, low on money and feeling like outsiders who don’t fit into the fast-paced rhythm of a foreign city.”
