The Tacks - Single Review: One Last Goodbye

05 Feb 2020 // A review by Kerry Monaghan

Hailing from Christchurch and featuring members of local Punk bands Nervous Jerk, Zhukov, Mental Fatal and Blame Thrower is the New Wave/Goth/Post Punk outfit, The Tacks.

Having formed in 2019, their sound is a combination of 80's synth with a definitive punk rhythm and a whole lot of goth. Think The Smiths and The Cure but with a flavour all of their own.

They’ve just released their new single, One Last Goodbye and they make no apologies for the stripped back one minute and twenty nine seconds of raw and honest simplicity.

Bittersweet and edgy with no frills sums this song up best. With simple harmonies and a catchy melody, you can sense the ferocious energy hidden within. This single, while perfect as it is, only serves to scrape the surface of what is to come from their upcoming EP, and I can't wait to hear what they will unleash next.

Rating: ( 5 / 5 )

Voodoo Bloo is the new music project of Rory McDonald. If his name sounds familiar it’ll be because he was the founder (vocals and bass) of now defunct alternative rock/punk Wellington band, Lucifer Gunne.
