Dan Sharp - Single Review: Have To Change
The dust has barely settled from Dan Sharp's release of Satellites, when he goes and drops another stunning track Have To Change. This is the last stand-alone single to be released from Dan's upcoming 5-track EP Slack Tide, which is due for release in early February.
Have To Change is another emotionally charged track from Dan, packed full of soul and meaning. If Satellites tells the tale of sacrifice and trying to make a relationship work, this then follows on with an intense and moving song about a relationship breaking down.
Dan can be quoted as saying “We (Thomas Oliver and I) attacked this song quickly from a production standpoint. We felt it important to capture the songs ‘desperate confusion’ and not smooth out the edges”. Well they managed to do that, creating a song overflowing with emotion.
Sincere and compelling lyrics are once again delivered in Dan's gritty, soulful style. This guy has a memorable voice and I am sure a bright future ahead of him. “Authentic” is the perfect word to describe his song writing style.
Accompanied by robust warm bassy tones, Dan is also a strong guitar player. There is a wonderful synergy between his voice and guitar; however, he is a musician who can impress purely on his vocal talent.
This track was co-written in Dublin with upcoming Canadian songwriter Jacob Henley, and recorded in Dublin with New Zealand’s own Thomas Oliver.
Have To Change will probably strike a chord with most of us, it is a song of poignant reflection. Of heartbreak, change and hope. It is the final single to be released before the launch of Dan's next EP and I for one can’t wait.
