Gunt - Gunt Interview 14/01/13

14 Jan 2013 // An interview by Asmith

I had a chat to Gunt's vocalist Rob horrible, here's what he had to say...

How long has Gunt been together?

7 years.

How did you come up with the name Gunt?

Copious amounts of liquor & a joke about fat chicks.

How would you describe your music to people who have never heard you before?

Mongrel Metal, throwing all of our influences together & spewing out a hybrid crossbred sound.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

We all have different influences, Lamb of God, Slayer, Pantera, Poison the Well, All Shall Perish, Norma Jean, Deicide, Hedpe, Sepultura etc.

What is your favourite gig you have played so far?

We played a couple of slamming shows with 8 Foot Sativa in New Plymouth last year! There have been countless amounts of sick shows we have played though.

If you could play with any band in the world who would it be?

I'm sure we'd all select something different but I'd probably choose Pantera personally. Simply because I love to party the way they did.

If you could play any venue in the world where would it be?

I'd like to hit Australia, also America & England, that's a hard one but Amsterdam would be the first thing that pops into my head to be honest, I'm sure you know why... haha.

How did you find the experience of playing at Beyond The Black?

It was good fun being with a huge line-up of fellow metal-heads & bands from across the country. I feel it could have been bigger, maybe doing a similar type of metal fest on a day that isn't NYE could bring bigger masses of people? I dunno...

What are we going to see from Gunt in 2013?

Gunt's goals include our full-length album and more shows across NZ, we already have a show in Palmy in the pipelines and a local one with Sinate, Dawn of Azazel, West of Hell, Thy Art Is Murder and more coming up too.

What is the best part about being a musician?

Music.

What's in your personal music collection?

I own a huge selection of music, not just metal, to answer each artist individually would take up 10 pages or more.

Who is your favourite NZ band and why?

There are heaps of kick arse NZ bands, but if I have to choose one it'd be DIC. Simply because I have been into them for so many years & still listen to them, I dont think any other kiwi bands has had as much playtime in my stereo than them.

Name an up and coming NZ band you think people should check out?

Gift of Ruin, they are sick as fuck! They guys are all good cats too.

What's the funniest thing you have seen at a gig/on tour?

Well, first thing I can think of was when we played a Halloween gig in Napier years ago & a fight broke out in the back of the pit. I could see a mate of mine with his face painted as a clown start pummeling this other dude, it was funny because he had this big smile painted on & from where I stood it looked like he was happy as fighting away, I'm sure under the paint it would have been an angry face hahaha.

What's your most embaressing gig/tour moment?

Hmmmmmmm...... Being drunk & saying stupid shit during interviews... haha.

What advice would you give to other aspiring musicians?

I'd say no matter how serious things might start getting, always remember to have fun. When the fun gets lost it's just, well, not fun anymore. I always remind myself & the other boys that when we started GUNT it was purely for fun.

Where is your favourite place in NZ to be?

On a stage in front of metal-heads playing GUNT! It doesn't matter where as long as it's pumping!

When not playing music, what else do you do in your spare time?

We all dabble in video games, couple of us are into the online Call of Duty/Black Ops, I been jamming Borderlands lately, we drink and socialize, watch movies, work, eat, sleep, shit, just normal everyday average mother fuckers.

When is your next release/what will it be?

Hoping for 2013 release and so far it doesn't have a title but we have written about 6 or 7 tracks for it, and Jay n Dave (guitarists) have a few more to unleash on us soon.

How do you keep in contact with your fans?

Facebook is our most active fan interaction page, I suggest to anyone who wants to contact us to message us on there.

If you could create a rumour about Gunt what would it be?

We don't need rumours, we're awesome enough as it is haha.
