Music News - Unsigned Christchurch Musician Gains Global Attention

It's been a big week for
Christchurch singer PLUM.
Not only has the 23-year-old’s latest single Silver Second been picked up by the U.S. tastemaker site HillyDilly, she’s just been named as a worldwide influencer in a global campaign for the youth lifestyle brand Factorie.
PLUM is the only New Zealander selected in the Faces of Factorie campaign, live now at http://www.facesoffactorie.com/, celebrating young people who “dare to dream big and change the game”.
PLUM was discovered by Factorie through the New Zealand new music website theaudience.co.nz, known for uncovering and nurturing local talent.
It’s huge recognition indeed for a young and unsigned artist and PLUM – real name Em-Haley - is ecstatic. “It’s super humbling to have the support of such an influential brand as I chase my dreams to have my music heard,” she says.
Since debuting her music at a live showcase held by theaudience in December 2014, PLUM has spent the better part of 2015 working on new material including Silver Second – co-written and produced by acclaimed Sydney songwriter Alex Hope.
Hope also co-wrote and produced Troye Sivan’s latest chart-topping EP, WILD, which is currently receiving social media love from the likes of Taylor Swift and Harry Styles.
Unrestricted by genre, PLUM’s sound takes inspiration from fashion and life experiences. She counts Kanye, Elliphant, Ellie Goulding, Banks and MO as influences and says Silver Second is about “chasing the high and not wanting to come down from the buzz of doing what you love; shunning mediocrity and not settling for the silver second.”
