New Zealand Music Month Summit

27 May 2014 - 0 Comments

The Auckland Museum hosted the official NZ Music Month Summit on Saturday 24th May, where those keen to learn from a range of music industry specialists filled the auditorium.

Presented by the Music Managers Forum and the New Zealand Music Commission, the Official NZ Music Month Summit was an exceptionally informative day of seminars covering the “Three D’s” of the music business; Artist development, International development and Songwriting development.

The Official NZ Music Month Summit, held annually, has become the must-attend event in the NZ Music Month calendar with the numbers attending this year’s Summit exceeding 170 participants.

A range of musicians, self managed artists, managers and people eager to enter into the music industry attended the seminars, commenting the Summit was "valuable, informative, honest and a great opportunity”. Others mentioned they “appreciated the variety of all industry speakers & musicians. All were articulate, open and sharing”.

The speakers on the day shared their knowledge and experience to an extremely interested and engaged audience.

NZ Music Commission Chairperson Vicky Blood commented “I've been in the music business for a very long time but I still found plenty to learn at this year's Summit. It was wonderful to have so many of our best managers enthusiastically involved in the sessions, and keen to support the next generation. Supporting our newer artists and managers like this is how we can ensure that NZ music continues to thrive”.

Paul McKessar agreed, mentioning, “It is a pivotal time for local music. An event like the Summit shows there's an eagerness for the industry to grow and foster more professionalism and ideas”.

A massive thank you to Recorded Music NZ, APRA and all the speakers, without whom the Summit would not be possible.
