National Champion Found

21 December 2009 - 0 Comments

Saturday night (19th) saw the conclusion of the Battle of the Bands National Championship; with the National Final taking place at Auckland’s Kings Arms Tavern.

Playing to a packed house, 13 bands from around New Zealand took to the stage, all delivering very passionate performances, battling for their chance to win the prize pool and be crowned The 2009 National Champions…

Auckland’s 9pc reggae band Unknown Peace took out 1st Place; delivering a crafted set of well written original songs, featuring multiple vocalists and great musicians, Unknown Peace had the audience chanting their name and lapping up their winning set; with what must have been one of the most enthusiastic crowd responses to any band this year.

2nd Place went to Wellington’s Candy for Strangers; A very unique, live drum & bass band that had the crowd dancing with their infectious grooves and singing along to their catchy melodies.

3rd Place went to Northland’s Soljah; probably the highest caliber of musicianship seen all year. Soljah are an amazing bunch of professional musicians who had audiences and fellow musicians watching and listening to every note of their captivating performance.

A combination of judge scores and fan TXT voting determined the overall results. With a very high standard of finalists, judges had an extremely tough job on their hands; judges commented ‘there were several bands that are sure to have successful music careers and picking just one was not easy’

The National Finalists were:

Candy for Strangers - Wellington - 2nd Place
City of Missiles - South Auckland
Enercia - Tauranga
Haylar - Christchurch
Local Vocal Crew - South Auckland
Snagon - West Auckland
Soljah - Northland - 3rd Place
Special Neadz - Oamaru
Suede Arcade - Christchurch
The Lost Boys - Auckland
Unknown Peace - Auckland - 1st Place
Urban Ersha - Palmerston North
Zionhill - Raglan

Unknown Peace has won recording time at Academic Audio Recording Studios, A 20 Channel Allen and Heath Mixing Desk and will be embarking on a National Tour in 2010.

Over the last 2 months, Battle of the Bands National Championship hosted 40 live events featuring 110 bands at multiple live music venues throughout NZ.
