NZ On Air February News

30 March 2008 - 0 Comments

To Two Decimal Places

New Zealand music content on commercial radio in the 2007 calendar year was 19.43% … just short of the 20% target shared by the radio industry, the Government and NZ On Air, which was a small disappointment to all concerned. Still – it was better than 2006’s 19.29% and so that is some small comfort.

However, the good news is that local content on commercial radio has been 20%+ in each of the first seven weeks of the 2008 calendar year and in the week to 10 February close to
touched 21%. That augurs well for this year.

College Radio Moves

For 12 months now, we have been working with the College Music Journal (CMJ) in New York as part of our Phase Five international New Zealand music promotions programme. CMJ is a music magazine that services the college radio community in the US. Through CMJ, we have been working away at infiltrating the college radio consciousness and raising the profile of New Zealand music … with Phase Five sampler discs and editorial in the CMJ New Music Report.

And it is starting to pay off. In the week of 11 February, Die! Die! Die! graced (sic) the cover of the CMJ New Music Report and in the week of 15 February, Liam Finn’s album I’ll Be Lightning was #9 on the CMJ Triple A Top 20 chart.
