Music News - Kiwi bands to get on board for iTunes NZ

07 December 2006 - 0 Comments

It’s a matter of when, not if, for iTunes to launch a store in New Zealand – finally! – and digital music distributor Jiggy.co.nz is calling for New Zealand bands to get in before the rush starts.

Jiggy.co.nz is asking New Zealand acts to submit albums to it for early inclusion for the New Zealand iTunes store, following meetings yesterday with between Jiggy director Dave Gibbons and iTunes representatives.

Jiggy.co.nz has operated the mobile phone text-based digital music download service since 2005 and has the exclusive New Zealand rights to The Orchard, the world’s largest supplier of independent music for digital distribution.

“We’re looking for 40 New Zealand acts to submit their albums for the iTunes New Zealand store when it opens – which it is strongly rumoured to do so soon,” said Mr Gibbons.

“This is the first opportunity for local acts, whether you’re signed or not, to get on board for iTunes New Zealand, and it’s very much a case of ‘when’, not ‘if’.

“So we need the hottest, dirtiest, rockingest, phattest, coolest, newest, spunkiest, craziest and altogether most fantastic New Zealand music to get in first for the iTunes New Zealand store when it opens in New Zealand,” he said.

“If bands don’t yet have an album, then no worries. We’re putting together a compilation through Jiggy to submit to iTunes as well.”

Jiggy.co.nz is a service for New Zealand artists to sell their music online without the need for a credit card.It is also an aggregator for The Orchard, which feeds into the global iTunes network and beyond, reaching over 70 countries, 250 telecos and 150 digital music stores.
