Gig & Concert News - Big Day Out Announces Its Lucky Last Band

Big Day Out Announces Its Lucky Last Band

13 December 2010 - 0 Comments

After a nationwide search conducted through Bnet stations and the Groove Guide, the BIG DAY OUT has found its final band for the line-up to appear at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium on Friday 21 January.

"Applying a little feng shui voodoo to some strictly home-made scientific principles of what would balance out a Big Day Out line-up encompassing the visceral roar of Iggy and The Stooges, the neo-hippy shake of Ed Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and the masked avenger destructo rave-up of The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, we felt that a band from Christchurch named after a Soviet era tank would fit the fourth corner perfectly," claimed Big Day Out promoter Campbell Smith.

And so it is that Smith announced T54, a noisy three piece from Christchurch influenced by classic New Zealand bands who also have three members (The Clean) or numbers in their name (The 3Ds) plus all the cool indie bands you can think of, as the last band added to the bill.

T54 have recently recorded their debut EP Drone Attacks with Dale Cotton in Dunedin for upcoming release on the Goldsounds label and are undoubtedly one of the most exciting new guitar bands in the country.

Smith continued to dispense Friday goodwill by then announcing the winner of a free trip to the Melbourne Big Day Out as lucky Heather Anderson of Taupo and handing a promotional geegaw to a befuddled pensioner in the street outside the Big Day Out's Auckland office.

Lucky Heather will take a friend to Melbourne. The pensioner was last seen heading in the direction of the Grey Lynn Public Library where he hopes to exchange the geegaw for one of those books with the big writing or an Ipad.
