GAHU Album release party November 25th London Bar.
Posted: Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:45 pm
On November 25th GAHU will release their new album Shell Money at the London Bar. (Civic Tavern cnr Queen & Wellesley St)

GAHU have an infectious passion for the music they call Afro-Kiwi fusion. It is a funky New Zealand sound which encompasses jazz, afrobeat, African Highlife and traditional rhythms of Ghana.

Live performances have the added attraction of the energetic dancing of Mr Y.B., man from Ghana, and the sight & sound of the unusual drums from Ghana with their irresistible call.

GAHU have been making a name for themselves around the North Island and are a very popular festival act, audiences enjoying this energetic band from Grey Lynn.

Recent performance highlights

NZ Coffee Festival in Taupo, Whitianga Scallop Festival, K’Road Karnival, New Plymouth Festival of Lights, Bay of Islands Jazz & Blues Festival, Rotorua Streatfest, Devonport Wine & Food, National Jazz Festival, Manawatu International Jazz & Blues Festival.

Reviews of the last GAHU album Hot Planet

“..the band’s performances are expansive, one minute rocking out, the next as mellow as a night under the stars. Their infectious, instrumental caress and fire overflows with international textures and jazz universality, and such ‘rhythm ‘n’ jazz Aotearoa’ can only be good for the soul. “
Brent Cardy Real Groove March 2004

“smooth, rhythmic and funky.” Marty Duda Citymix March 2004

GAHU are:
Bud Hooper Ghana drums, drumkit
Lance McNicoll guitar
Cadzow Cossar guitar
Jane McAllister electric bass
Mr Y.B. Ghana drums, singing & dancing
Ben McNicoll saxophones
