alkaline trio?! come on! its not emo unless they wear eye shadow!

on a side note: the new alk3 cd is really really nice.

i dunno what genre you wanna put it into but im liking the new circa-survive cd (ex-saosin singer's new band)

emo is definantly still a sub-sub-genre in nz but it has been picking up. maybe all the punk bands who went hardcore will eventually have mid-life crises's and end up as emo bands.

Not sure what everyone's definition of emo is, I was thinking Keane, Coldplay etc. but perhaps with more of a rock angle.

If that's your cup of tea then try mollyhawk. I may be a friend of the band, but they just got a review in the latest Rip it Up which said among other things, "would suit a very emotional scene in the OC"... well I've never seen the OC, but the soundtrack seems very emo orinetated and the singer can scream pitch perfect.

Check em out on amplifier, especially the song Until you came Along (big screams) they play round Auckland quite a lot.

i think your confusing emo with crappy pop rock. its not emo unless there's either eye shadow, flesh tunnels, chuck taylors or fringes Razz

what version of the video are they playing? the one where the guy looks like hes been crying for weeks, or the one with the band playing? its a pretty catchy song, but it gets old REAL fast.

go check out some old saosin Happy

Interesting, yet again a person on this forum is quick to slay a genre that they obviously don't like. So emo rock is essentially an image rather than a sound? i.e. chuck taylors, eye shadow etc.

And why is Keane or Coldplay crappy pop rock? Last time I listened it struck me as deliciously melodic, emotive and creative.

My Chemical Romance albums @ Real Groovy - either RealGroovy.co.nz or you can find a store pretty much anywhere.
I dig the My Chemical Romance stuff I've heard - which is all of one song, 'I'm not okay' - saw it on C4 the dude shoots down the cheerleader and stuff, I dig it because I feel it.
That's what emo is to me, a feeling. Out of that comes an image, and the music, but I reckon it has to begin with a feeling.
I heard a definition of Emo as like Goth but not as hard - I would add that Emo is lacking the extroversion to thrust the anti-cool down your throat.
Also, Emo - seems to be short for Emotional, also has been defined as a misspelling of Emu.

p.s. Most Emos are prob at home brooding/being depressed/whatever. I'm sure there are plenty out there doing stuff, but I doubt it. And with the scene being so small/independent/individualistic and invisible/subtle, how would Emos even know where to find other Emos? - maybe that's what happened to the Moas (cos they were like the Emus - or was that ostriches?)

Emo = a cultural identity that supports a lifestyle of introverted anti-cool.

Dashboard Confessional, Further Seems Forever and The Get Up Kids get big ticks in my book.... esp the MTV acoustic album by dashboard, big fan of it...

Went and saw them in Austrayer and a great concert...
