Metal isn't the only genre of music. Big Day Out has to cater to all genres of music to draw all kinds of people rather than just a bunch of metalheads. what makes you guys so special?

I hate metal, im actually on your side. Its funny how people are getting so butt hurt about the line up. Get the fuck over it to be honest.

what makes us so special? nothing. but if this event was to cater for everyone then i think that metal should be included. now i'm not trying to insult anyone but i know lots of people that listen to a wide variety of music, pop, hiphop, dance, indie, punk, country, etc etc and i would say that metalheads are among the most dedicated fans of any genre. it's just a shame that we r a minority and thus get overlooker more often than not.

I like that a lot of the music I'm into isn't widely accepted. I'm not into the festival vibe, and I don't want my stuff being thrashed on the radio and ruined. (The Rock have totally ruined that new Kings of Leon for me before the album even came out! Big hype is just a setup for a big letdown)

I'm certainly not pissy about this lineup, I just won't go. No biggie.

One token metal band ain't enough for most metallers to want to show up. That one band is usually another trendy poster boy pop metal act anyways. *cough cough* Trivium *cough cough*

That's why you avoid the radio, I thought I couldn't but I did, I don't know why but it makes music so much better, on your own scale, and you don't have to let the radio tell you wants good.

I don't think its worth arguing what genre has the most dedicated fans, I think everyone should just go about what music they like and live it up, doesn't matter if you like a genre that has the 'most dedicated' fans or not, thats not what music is all about.

Yeah I try my best, but I work in an office stuck on Classic Hits or The Rock so I can't run away from it sadly.

agreed. and thats the last you'll hear from me bout it. and as far as the radio goes i don't listen to it (part from the axe attack ocasionally) i like making my own mind up bout what i like. i find the radio to be nothing more than an evil, corprate, money making machine. i want bands to do well but at the same time feel that the radio has very little to do with music and more to do with guys at buisness lunches descussing profits.

First of all. Stop whining and complaining. you aren't being overlooked, metal is included. And there are plenty of metal concerts throughout the year. trivium played last year, and bullet for my valentine are playing this year and there have been plenty of metal bands in the past and its only the first announcement. There are so many genres and some aren't even included in big day out at all so just because there aren't ten big metal bands that you like playing at big day out, does not mean you are being overlooked. If you are that upset about the unfair treatment of the minority metalheads... complain to big day out organisers or else move to another country which has a metal festival.

As a metalhead I'm resigned to the fact that our music gets overlooked, it doesn't bother me one iota.

It doesn't help that whenever something metal is put on, bugger-all people show up. It's too small a movement in this country. The fact that no "metal" bar/venue has lasted more than a few months is testament to that.

No, Classic Hits is TERRIBLE

80% of their playlist are one-hit wonders (Ace of Base, 4 Non Blondes, Rick Astley etc), and the other good bands they only ever play the same one or two songs. Every day. With no variety. Ad nausem. Over and over. Et cetera.

Stuff that sucked when it came out (mostly) that sucks even worse now.

No redeeming factor.

Safe repetitive music to keep people in clock-punching work-mode.

i really don't get why metal heads are ALWAYS complaining about more metal needed at BDO. I'm a huge metal fan, but i also love a lot of other genres.... i go to BDO to see these other genres. if i want to see metal i go to a local metal show and any international metal act i can... (can't wait for Piggy D)

Ditto bro.

I'm a fan enough of other styles of music to still consider going.

I'm so glad this discussion is going so well, the one over on last.fm is just a big scrap-fest. They are all drinking the haterade over there; literally.

No... seems to happen every year.

But it might make them sell more NZ tickets when they go on sale tomorrow. Rolling Eyes
