Bands & Venues: READ THIS
Posted: Sun May 7, 2006 3:56 pm
I used to think I was the only one hacked off by band
gigs not getting underway until gone 10pm at night.
But ...I have recently been speaking with some band members (and
a couple of movers and shakers in the industry)
and they actually agree with me that they are losing quite
a percentage of their potential audience by starting late.
When did this BIG SHIFT occur? When did it become de rigeur
to start playing or dee-jaying close to midnight - and then having
young drunks littering the street at 5am in the morning?
People like myself in the 40-60 age bracket DO enjoy modern music.
We would like bands to start up about 8pm. If this was to happen, we'd
be there BUYING tickets.

I agree, concerts should start between 7.30 and 9pm(at the latest) If they're playing a good 1 1/2 - 2 hour set.

Thanks for your comment Sailor.

You know ...we're a little bit old but people like myself
have been music fans for years. I love the stuff that new
NZ bands are putting out there, and buy the CDs.

It' just that we're past that age when we need to spend
2 hours in the bathroom on hair and make-up, and WHAT TO
WEAR. And getting half-plastered at a mate's house before
heading down town.

By the time a gig is about to start, we're at home, counting
down the hours and then ....too damn tired to bother going out.

yea i get ya, also it needs to be taken into account that all the drunken teens and what not are gonna flood the streets and start shit, hyped after a show and it's gonna cause trouble
