Band & Musician News - The Nomad Returns From The Road Less Travelled With New Album

The Nomad Returns From The Road Less Travelled With New Album

02 July 2011 - 0 Comments

Roaming the globe, cruising along the road less travelled, The Nomad makes music that pushes the boundaries.

His latest offering Perilous Times sees The Nomad (aka Daimon Schwalger) keep things fresh, taking off on a new tangent by blending signature sounds of reggae, drum & bass, jungle and electronica but crafting it with a particularly dubstep focused lean.

First single, "Deeper" showcases The Nomad's ingenuity as he builds a dubstep foundation and layers upon it some surprising reggae instrumentation - wafting melodica, organs and guitars plus sultry vocals from Saritah and enigmatic vocal meanderings from seasoned MC, Jornick, - creating a standout track.

Elsewhere on Perilous Times, The Nomad dishes up classic reggae tunes, smoky, twisted slow burners such as "Give Some Love" and "A Silent Song", raw dancehall floor-fillers with "Run Through These Streets" and wonky, dark beats with quavering bluesy guitars on the album's title track.

Titled Perilous Times the album reflects on the current times in which we live and the day to day struggles that so many presently face.

"I titled the album "Perilous Times" as I believe that it is really relevant to the times we live in. From earthquakes to tsunamis and other man-made or natural disasters, the earth is in strife. I was influenced by the current events in the world and concluded that people seem to be overly concerned with material possessions and misplace the importance of treasuring the natural resources of the earth. Many of the tracks on the album carry an environmental and political message." - The Nomad

Moving to Australia in 2008 to expand his networks and develop his musical creativity proved to be a catalyst for The Nomad and resulted in Perilous Times. Armed only with an outline of one song - a draft drum beat, guitars laid down by Tehi Mana Kerr (Fat Freddy's Drop) and bass by Crete Haami-Jones (Hollie Smith band) - The Nomad pieced together "Devil In The Dark" upon first arriving. He later co-opted then ex-pat, Julia Deans (Fur Patrol), to appear on vocals and Myele Manzanza (Electric Wire Hustle) to round the song out with drums.

The Nomad also called upon fellow Kiwi, Oakley Grenell, who lends his guitar talents to six tracks on the album.

With strong connections already established in New Zealand, The Nomad immersed himself in the Melbourne music scene, and as a result met and collaborated with a range of international artists including the UK's Urban Soul Orchestra, Jake Savona (AU), Vida-Sunshyne (AU), Boover Banton (UK), Jornick (French Guiana), Saritah (AU), Caroline Agostini(UK) and Rayjah45 (NZ), all who showcase their prodigious talents on Perilous Times.

A digital only Perilous Times Bonus Edition will be available exclusively on iTunes, which will include two previously unreleased tracks - "So Crazy" featuring King Kapisi and "Stand" featuring Luciano. Both tracks are stunners showcasing the talents of the well-known vocalists and must-haves for every fan of The Nomad.

Through the creation and celebration of independent music, The Nomad, shares the story of his journeys. Having spent more than two decades behind both the decks and at the controls, Daimon is now the master of his own production studios, Fresh Audio. A crispy mix of musical talent, he's released five albums to date with his sixth, Perilous Times set to drop through ForeignDub records on Monday 11 July - both digitally and physically in all good record stores.

To launch the album Perilous Times The Nomad and his live band will be touring New Zealand over August. Dates to follow.

Perilous Times is released in physical and digital format on 11 July 2011.
