The Highfield Weekend, or THW, pronounced: thuwa, hail from Feilding, 14 time winner of New Zealand's most beautiful town competition although only one of the band members still resides in their home town.
"It was just too beautiful you know, life's got dark elements to it and I just had to get out, it was surreal." Says THW bass player Greyzee who now lives in the more balanced and much darker city of Lower Hutt.
Encompassing a punky take on modern rock, THW have coined a new genre known as 'Prunk'. A zany fusion of progressive punk rock that only Feilding can produce.
Eloquently expressive, the bands founder and primary song writer Dan shares his THW journey with us:
"We've grown up, theres children involved now, and houses, traditional styles of music weren't fitting in with our lifestyles. The sound has kind of evolved into something in between so we thought, hey, why not do something unique to us? I don't know if we've nailed it yet, but we are onto something and we like it."
With crunchy guitars, punishing screams, noodling leads lines and questionable lyrical themes, THW sets the stage for an interesting live performance planned for release on unsuspecting music lovers of the lower central North Island this summer.
Feilding may be famous for sweet pop harmonies but The Highfield Weekend is definitely not going to stick to that heritage for ever more.
The Highfield Weekend has now disbanded.
