Amygdala formed as a studio band back in 2003, recording there first demos in the bedroom of composer Nick Blow. Half a year was spent developing the "Amygdala" style which has been described as "DJ - Metal - Ambient - Hardcore" by AR Director of Pagan/Antenna Recordings' Trevor Reekie, whom the band has been working with for the last year.
Two months after the oringal band line up was formed, Amygdala had there first airplay on national radio with the song "Platonia" on The Rock Networks' "Soundcheck" programme which lasted a full month playing several times per day.
In mid 2004 after creating a strong following in the Hawkes Bay area, Amygdala suffered there first live set back with drummer "Japhy Watson", travelling to Dunedin to study. At this point the band decided to head back to the studio to write there second batch of demos whilst observing the local talent and hunting down a new drummer.
Chris Smith was appointed the new back bone of rythmic duties after Nick and Ben's scouting excursion to the Hawkes Bay Regional Drum Wars competition. Within a month the band was back on target only to hear the original bassist (Mike "Chips" Winkley) was making the move to Ireland indefinitley.
This gave a little more time for the band to experiment with their musical diversity and begun work with a short remix demo album ('Naturally Artificial') which sparked a wide interest from many people, and a project that redefined there approach in sampling/programming techniques.
Early 2005 introduced an additive to the band with the live infectiousness of bassist Daniel Clements, and frequent guest appareances from Dean Talo (Voodoo Butta, Saint's Empire).
