Aerial’s music takes you on an emotional journey, passing through haunting, melancholic moments and stunning ethereal melodies.
Aerial began as friends recording song ideas in a studio, but quickly realised they had something special that needed to be taken further.
The experience has led to the production of a gorgeous collection of songs on Aerial’s debut album, ‘The Space Between’, released on Shock Records in June 2006.
The album is a collection of twelve beautifully crafted introspective songs that speak of the personal experiences and dreams of the writers. They tell of compromising situations, failed relationships, intense homesickness, new life, and accidental phone calls.
‘The Space Between’ was engineered and produced by Aerial at the sadly departed Helen Young Studio in Auckland, and includes guest performances from a pool of local musicians including Joost Langeveld (bass), Paul Russell (drums), keyboardist Stephanie Brown, and composer Victoria Kelly.
As an unsigned band, Aerial has enjoyed their share of success. Their second single, ‘Come Around Again’, was playlisted by 14 stations around New Zealand, including the More FM Network. Their first single, ‘As I Fall’, featured on TV2’s Outrageous Fortune and was licensed to Air New Zealand for a three-month promotional campaign.
Aerial have appeared live for the Juice ZM Music Month broadcasts and Coke New Releases. They have received NZ On Air single and video grants for ‘As I Fall’ and ‘Come Around Again’, which were both nominated for best Indie Video at the Juice Music Awards 2004 and 2005 respectively.
