Ritalin are one of New Zealand's hardest working underground bands.
Formed in 1997, while still in fourth form at high school, the band has consistently shown their passion and enthusiasm for playing together. Ritalin have played everywhere from small halls to big music festivals such as the 2003 Big Day Out.
Ritalin do things the old fashioned way with a commitment to constant touring and quality releases, taking their brand of fast paced melodic hardcore to any city that will have them.
The band's commitment and hard working attitude is evident with their recent efforts promoting their 'Stop Wasting Time' CD. Ritalin completed countless national headlining tours plus additional tours supporting such bands as Sick Of It All, from New York, and New Zealand bands Sommerset and Missing Teeth, this touring included appearances at two national Punk-fest festivals.
Ritalin's Recordings to date have included debut Demo CD 'Bitter' which sold out in a matter of weeks when it was released in 2002. Halloween 2003 saw the release of their debut nine-track EP 'Stop Wasting Time' which has also sold well, with the first pressing almost gone. In October 2004
the band returned with a split CD with Rebel High Records label mates Two Fat Ladies and yet again toured nationally in support of the release.
Ritalin's output has recently become even more astounding with drummer Stu Young undertaking extensive touring worldwide with New Zealand punk legends Sommerset, whom he now also
drums for.
Ritalin have recently increasingly had their music featured in mediums other than CD, securing prime spot's on TV2's live-to-air Play It Strange weekend, and student show Cow TV. They also provided the soundtrack for at least two extreme sports DVDs and TV2's extreme sports program XSTV as well as topping student radio charts with their song 'Oh Georgia'.
On top of all of this, the band has managed to find time to set up their record label Rebel High Records that already has many quality releases under its belt and is growing rapidly.
Ritalin are currently booking dates for extensive New Zealand touring in March and April of 2005, the latter in support of American Act Strike Anywhere. The band is also looking for
distribution of their releases in as many countries as possible. Ritalin are prepared to undertake international touring in order to support their releases.
Their CDs are also available from Smokecds.com.
Ritalin is now based in Wellington.
