If you are a NZ hip-hop or R&B fan you may already have heard of Mz J (aka Julie Ta’ale), who is set to rock our music scene as New Zealand’s next queen of R&B.
Blessed with one of the strongest female voices the NZ music industry has heard to date, Mz J features on the albums of Smashproof, Mareko, PNC, Chong Nee and David Dallas, and gigs regularly with Devolo, Pieter T and Smashproof among others.
Mz J is currently in the process of recording her debut album "Independence Day" with co-songwriters and producers Dom from D1 Entertainment (Adeaze) and her brother Harry Kelemete. Featuring guest performances by PNC, David Dallas and others, Mz J’s polished commercial R&B sound effortlessly delivers strong radio-friendly tracks infused with confidence and style.
In 2008 Mz J tested the radio waters under her full name with the track "Oh Baby!" which spent 7 weeks in the NZ40 charts - peaking at no.21 - and attracted a Radio Hits rebate from NZ On Air. The music video for "Oh Baby" played on all NZ music tv networks and notched up over 10,000 YouTube views in its first week.
Follow up singles include Falling In Love and Love You Like No Other. Listen out for them on Flava FM and NiuFM and look out for the video on Juice TV.
Mz J has several years of performances under her belt including festivals and industry events, and can also count 2 Tui wins to her name - the first in 2003 as a member of all-girl band Pacific Soul (with Sara-Jane Auva’a) and more recently as part of the Mt Vaea Band in 2006.
On November 7 2011 Mz J releases her debut album, Love Changes Everything which features ten tracks including Falling In Love, That Gurl and Love You Like No Other.
