15 Minutes rose from the ashes of high-school band – Sanguine. Formed in 1997, Sanguine featured Antony (Tony) O'Sullivan on lead vocals and Charles (Charlie) Fahy on lead guitar.
When the band split the following year, Antony, together with drummer James (Jimi) Gatland, assembled as new band under the name IFH, and entered into the North Shore Rockquest in 1998.
With very little time to prepare before the show, and a lack of previous experience in live performance, IFH failed to place and consequently the artists parted ways soon after.
In January 2004, Tony, Charlie and Jimi re-united as a three-piece set, originally recording songs on a small Aiwa cassette recorder, suspended from a step-ladder in the spare room of James' parents house.
The name ladder recordings was discussed as a possible name for their first record. Over the following few months, the band spent a lot of their spare time practicing in the basement of Charlie's parent's house, which was later converted into an amateur home-recording studio.
15 Minutes cut their teeth playing live shows at local parties and backyard barbeques, although hope to step into the world of professional performing with their breakout gig at Matakana House in March 2005.
With roots primarily in rock, reggae and punk music, 15 Minutes fused the ska/punk influences of Californian bands such as Sublime and Rancid, the early nineties rock/grunge influences of the Seattle grunge movement and the lively sounds of early Kiwi rock to create their own unique style. The band creates an interesting mix of sometimes heavy rock riffs with simple, melodic reggae chord progressions.
