Formed in Christchurch in mid 2003 by James Dunlop, Darren Abrams and Richard Smith, Jekyll are a hard rock/metal band that fuse musical influences such as the Deftones, Carcass, Faith No More and Black Sabbath with the unique style of vocalist, Shaun Garea.
Darren and James, who studied audio engineering together, formed Jekyll with a desire to play live music. Richard was quickly brought on board as his previous covers band had recently dissolved and he was interested in playing original songs. Shaun was added after the band replied to his vocalist-seeking-band notice, posted in a local music shop.
Shaun's very original sound was in keeping with the ideologies of the rest of the band, and so Jekyll was born.
