Bio

The Scavengers were formed in Auckland during the pre-punk mid-70s. They were four graphic art students, bent on playing a brash form of street rock, and with a knack for ludicrously silly stage pseudonyms.

The Scavengers are best known for their punk nuggets 'Mysterex' and 'True Love' that featured on the punk compilation 'AK79'.

Between 1977 and 1978 the Scavengers regularly perfomed at Auckland punk club Zwins in Durham Lane, and The Windsor Castle in Parnell.

In mid 1978 they featured on a TVNZ documentary presented by the late Neil Roberts investigated the NZ punk scene. Later that year they rerecorded 'Mysterex' with former Ray Columbus and the Invaders guitarist Dave Russell, and produced a classic NZ video which is regularly played on national television.
