JCK - Album Review: Glass

01 Feb 2018 // A review by Kerry Monaghan

JCK or James Castady-Kristament, a name familiar to most, especially here at Muzic.net.nz. The multi-genre and multi-talented artist is back in 2018 with his new album, Glass and itís a stunner.

If youíre familiar with any of his work, youíll know that Hip-Hop is predominately his jam and his self- made videos are a work of art. Well, the latter is still true, but Glass steps out of its zone for a rare treat and takes you down the well-trodden path of Heavy Metal, Hard Rock and a couple of impressive covers (David Bowie, White Zombie, anyone?)

The result is superb. For any Metal and Rock fan, itís a slab of heavy, industrial oomph with strong lyrical ability, originality and slathered with that JCK touch that makes everything unique.

The ten track album is all self-made, self-promoted and entirely different to his usual sound, and thatís what makes this stand out. I think of it as a milestone album when an artist branches out with a different genre. Some are good, some are mediocre, but fear not, these ten tracks have something for everyone and you will walk away with that impressed look etched on your face. If youíre really digging it like I did, it will also warrant a second and third listen, because good music should grab you like that.

If you fancy a bit of industrial-goth-steampunk heavy rock badass heavy metal rock, with some sweet videos to boot, then look no further than Glass.

About JCK

New Zealand Hip-Hop artist JCK is all about creativity and originality. Gothic imagery, catchy well crafted songs and captivating music videos set JCK apart from the legions of look alike, sound alike Hip-Hop artists currently flooding the market.

"Most Hip-Hop artists seem to want to take you on the same journey with their music. That's usually a trip through the hood they grew up in. It's like the hoods getting over crowded with rapper tour guides. I might take you to the hood for a quick look around, but only on route to the carnival"

JCK is a multi instrumentalist as well as a rapper and singer. He produces his own music and even films, directs and edits his own music videos.

Gig Review: Paul McCartney @ Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland - 16/12/2017
17 Dec 2017 // by Kerry Monaghan
Opening with A Hard Dayís Night to thunderous applause and rapture, Paul McCartney didnít waste any time in appeasing the thirty something thousand crowd that descended upon Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland last night. It was a perfect warm summerís night with no wind that made for crystal clear acoustics, and a stage that was set up perfectly with two huge live feed screens so everyone, front, side and back got the chance to see Sir McCartney in all his glory.

Album Review: The Hopkinsville Goblins
01 Nov 2017 // by Kerry Monaghan
The Hopkinsville Goblins are Back! The Wellingtonian's self-titled album is their second intergalactic collaboration of quirky sound effects, samples and lyrical connotations with continued exploration of everything out of the ordinary with that familiar shambolic confusion that is entirely their own.
