Long time independent music bohemians DateMonthYear are proud to announce the release of their latest music video for the song Exodus on YouTube from January 31st, 2020.

DateMonthYear’s visual sensibility and aesthetic is as unique and idiosyncratic as its music, and this video is that latest in a long line of challenging visual experiences.

Exodus was directed by DateMonthYear founder Trevor Faville and Kathleen Christian, who directed the troubling and sombre video for Numbers.

The song itself imagines a 21st century version of the ‘Once-ler’ character from the book ‘The Lorax’ and what his testimony might be, from the opening line.

We played/ an end game/ and we came/we saw/ we conquered
To the closing
Your futures a lie/we bled all of it dry The song explores greed, rapacity and unfettered exploitation.

In setting the visuals. Christian and Faville assembled a range of evocative images and ideas to match the words- in many ways, the video was evolving as the recording was- and the end result has been described as 'harrowing', 'powerful', 'unrelenting' and 'not a lot of laughs' Says Faville “well, that’s what we went for”.

Exodus is available on DateMonthYears latest album, a shortened version is available on Spotify, and the full version can be purchased on CD only from DateMonthYear’s home site.
