Young Gho$t - 'Hungerstruck'

06 December 2019 - 0 Comments

Hungerstruck is Young Gho$t's second album of 2019, capping off a year of steady progress, where he has opened up for some international heavyweights such as Shakewell, Bladee and Ramirez. After releasing his full-length debut in March, Gho$t (whose real name is Casper) has been slowly developing his sound, touching on everything from old school hip hop (Body Sticky) to modern trap (Sideways) along the way. On Hungerstruck, he aims to combine all of these sounds and more, attempting to organise his scattered mind in this 16-track rollercoaster. Mixed and mastered by Chronic Shnxman, the album is true to its title, with a hungry Young Gho$t demonstrating a greater diversity and sensitivity than in previous works. After a suspenseful intro, the pace begins breakneck, with Shnxman's production sounding crisper than ever, and Gho$t's delivery more consistent. Where previous works have been a largely solo affair, this time there are features popping from a range of voices (Hxrman, Lil Dust, LBFRmikey, Chronic Shnxman, Stonrsmurf, Patrick Gower and Rvnnah all memorable highlights). The album also features production from Elder, Scapegoat Mercy, Carcass and Kanakin, with each making a notable contribution to the project. Clocking in at 45 minutes, Young Gho$t recently performed the whole thing to a packed crowd at his favoured Wellington haunt, Valhalla, and since then anticipation has been itching for him to drop it on the world.

Casper will be celebrating the album launch in style, with a pot luck BBQ on release day, followed by a couple of DJ sets around Wellington over the course of the weekend, where he will be mixing in his new tracks in with other styles and genres. Coming up in the summer, Young Gho$t will bless the mic next at Golden Bay's annual new years’ bash, Twisted Frequency, alongside NZ hip hop heavyweights such as Raiza Biza, Mo Muse and Ryan Hendricks, not to mention 5 diverse days worth of alternative electronic and live music. Tickets are available from Cosmic.
