Indie folk duo Lhasa announce their NZ North Island tour in support of their debut EP, Birdsong.
Lhasa are the result of two completely different worlds colliding. One from a sleepy, small city in New Zealand, while the other grew up in one of the biggest cities in China. Like the coming together of two completely different lives, their music is a combination of an organic acoustic sound and a penchant for rock music. Their striking harmonies and poetic songwriting provide an immersive, emotional experience. Inspiration is drawn from tales of love and loss, life's longings, friendships, and disappointments. The songs were written in the midst of navigating evolving relationships, leaving childhood, and settling into new environments.
Lhasa released Birdsong on 21 September. They performed live on RNZ and Radio 13, and were featured on international blogs Atwood Magazine and Buzz Music.
“They have a certain interconnectedness when they perform, you can hear how smoothly everything moves along together, rising in intensity and passion gradually before settling back down.” – Buzz Music
“Right from the get-go the crisp capturing of excellent performances is apparent. Samuel and Micaela’s voices complement each other so well” – Muzic.net.nz
Lhasa are supported on this tour by Auckland musician George After James. His intricate guitar playing, soaring vocal melodies and innovative writing combine to form detailed sonic layers that support his contemplative and honest lyrical wanderings.
