Local, nationally known (and loved by many) ukulele trio The Nukes will perform their last concert of 2019 in the Titirangi Theatre Friday Dec 13th. Expect an entertaining show featuring original material from their 3 albums plus some new songs due to be released early next year. The Nukes always deliver a fun, entertaining show and the theatre is a perfect space to hear them. There will be a ukulele giveaway (from Kala) on the night, perfect for someone who might be contemplating getting into music and / or also great for the Christmas stocking.
They’ll be joined by another pair of uke enthusiasts Gaylene and Kararaina - AKA Gin and Kronic with their brand of slightly off-kilter cover versions of well known songs- they’ll make you smile and tap your toes. David Parker’s Pt Chevalier ukulele orchestra will kick off the night with some classic tunes and waiata.
Over the last ten years the Nukes have travelled wide and often about Australasia .At the helm is Dave Parker, inveigling with a sparkling voice and a compelling custom uke sound that commands respect. Swabbing the decks is new recruit ‘ The Curious’ percussionist ‘mysterious’ Mike Burrows, (who also packs a spry falsetto) while the audacious slide ukulele and wry humour of Ben Collier keep the whole shebang on an even keel.
It’s original, inventive, quirky and Kiwi. If you see that The Nukes are coming your way, don’t duck and cover, don’t try and be a hero. Just gather all your friends and head for ground zero. Part vaudeville, part rat-pack, part musical car crash, this talented trio deliver an engaging mix of humour and originality that audiences of all ages will love.
This will be great night of entertainment designed to get you into the summer-Christmas spirit. The bar will be run by the theatre.
