George After James is proud to release his debut single, In Your Hands (You Won’t Let Go), along with the announcement of his self-titled EP George After James, due for release in January 2020.
George After James is the project of James Fistonich, a guitarist and singer based in Auckland. His intricate guitar playing, soaring vocal melodies and innovative writing combine to form detailed sonic layers that support his contemplative and honest lyrical wanderings.
Born in Hamilton, James Fistonich grew up in central China, before returning to New Zealand in 2016 to earn a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Auckland.
His upbringing has had a profound impact on the way he views the world. The diversity of culture, from the megacity where he spent his formative years, to the remote Tibetan regions he frequently visited, proved vastly different to the contemporary western society he returned to. Often feeling caught between two worlds, the theme of belonging permeates many of his lyrics. "It's hard to explain how things were over there, it's all I ever really knew. I guess that's what the music is for - to say what I don't know how to," says Fistonich.
The single, In Your Hands (You Won't Let Go), has been extensively deliberated over to arrive at its smooth and compelling sound. It builds to an expansive sonic soundscape, featuring rich vocals and soaring falsetto, with melodious riffs along the way.

George After James will be celebrating the release of In Your Hands (Your Won’t Let Go) at the Upper Room Basement on Tuesday, 26 November with support from Raylee Bradfield. Tickets on sale from Under The Radar here.
