Music News - George Releases Smashing Second Single, 'Never Had Love'

Following up the success of her debut single, Vacant Cities, George now issues an ode to elusive romance with follow up single, Never Had Love.
Created in a new partnership with Shannon Fowler (Tom Lark) and Mark Perkins (Merk), the single was written and recorded in an Auckland-based session in March, with the song coming together seamlessly during the day long session. The in-studio ‘write and record’ has been a change in creative process for George, but one that has opened a world of new possibilities and has generated no less than stunning results.
George shares the lyrical story behind the Never Had Love; ”The song was inspired by a book I found at a second hand book fair, and an old photo of a man I found inside. Was this photo a keepsake? Was this someone’s beloved? What was their love like? What will be our mementos in an age where physical photos are the exception and not the norm? Is our idea of modern love as strong as it seemed back then, when all you had was a photo to…something? These things were all running through my mind while we shaped the narrative behind the lyrics.”
The accompanying video sees George partner again with director Cam Neate to execute the vision for the track. George elaborates, “I really loved working with Cam on the video for Vacant Cities, and for this track, I thought he would be the perfect choice to bring a balance of humour and quirk, but also bring a beautiful cinematic element to the song. The concept did require me to act a bit, which I found a bit of a challenge during such a fun shoot, especially while shooting the beach scenes with the lead actor in speedos – it took everything I had to keep a straight face for that scene!”
Never Had Love follows the release of George’s debut single, Vacant Cities which connected instantly with MTV AUNZ who made the video their Upload of the Week. With further support from ZM alongside a stunning acoustic live to air set on Radio NZ, Vacant Cities has gained over 200k streams on Spotify alone.
Expect more singles from George, and an EP release this Summer.
Never Had Love is out now through Spotify, Apple Music and iTunes and releases with the support of NZ On Air.
