Broadway and West End Star Hayden Tee comes home to New Zealand for new album

26 September 2019 - 0 Comments

Broadway Records today announced that Hayden Tee: Face to Face will be released digitally and in stores on Friday, November 8, 2019. The album is currently available for pre-order at www.BroadwayRecords.com and Amazon.com.

Hayden Tee (Ngati Kahungunu), the New Zealand performer The Sydney Herald proclaimed “a definite star” and acclaimed for his work on Broadway, London’s West End, Australia and beyond, releases his first album dedicated to musical theatre. Face to Face features songs from his starring roles in Matilda the Musical, Les Miserables, 1776, and expands his repertoire with songs by Jason Robert Brown, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Adam Guettel, Kander & Ebb and more. Arranged by Nigel Ubrihien, backed by a symphony orchestra, and featuring a duet with John Owen-Jones, Face To Face is a sumptuous celebration of musical theatre.

The announcement coincides with the news that Hayden will perform in New Zealand for the first time in a decade, heading to New Zealand to reprise his Javert in the Auckland season of Les Miserables, having previously played the role in Australia, Broadway, the West End and Dubai. He returns home from London’s West End where he’s spent a year as Matilda the Musical’s mega-villain Miss Trunchbull. “His comedic timing and pantomime posturing was matched by a fabulous belt on the showstopping Smell of Rebellion,” enthused Express.co.uk.

“It has taken me almost 40 years to really settle into who I am,” Hayden said.

“This album has taken over three years to complete and it is unashamedly me, the songs I always wanted, the instruments I always wanted (all 63 of them) and the look and images I feel represents me. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I have enjoyed creating it.”

“I have always been a proud Kiwi, proud of our country physically, our culture, my Ngati Kahungunu and Maori heritage and most importantly kiwis themselves, our kind global reputation and progressive politics both historically and currently. We have so much to be proud of! It is time for me to come home to Aotearoa. I am very excited to be bringing my performance of Javert in Les Misérables to family and friends and it felt important to me to be in New Zealand when my latest album Face to Face releases.”

Les Miserables opens on 7 November at The Civic, and Face to Face will be released the following day, available on CD at music retailers and in the theatre foyer, as well as digitally.
