Music News - New Album for Lake South

New Album for Lake South

17 July 2019 - 0 Comments

Home Alone Music is proud to present Lake South’s sophomore long-player Wellington | Te Upoko O Te Ika. A record of one person’s interpretation of place, the album features 11 vignettes from ordinary life. Simple songs soaked in synths and sentiment.

Wellington was mostly recorded on the East Coast’s Whanarua Bay with multi-instrumentalist and instrument maker Phill Jones. It also features piano from Ben Tolich (Mali Mali), backing vocals from Penelope Eslplin (Grawlixes, French for Rabbits), and drums from Boycrush’s Alistair Deverick. The video for the first single South Coast is out now.

As a visual accompaniment to the album, there are postcards for each track. These ‘wish you were here’ letters to the listener offer hints at the sentiment imbued within the songs.

For a sneak peak of the album, there is a web app for people to listen to the songs in the places they sing about. If you are within 500 metres of a particular location, an audio player becomes visible allowing you to listen to the corresponding track. The album follows the release of 2017’s If You're Born On An Island The Ocean Heals You.

Wellington | Te Upoko O Te Ika (HAM026) is available digitally on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, etc. from August 2nd. Physical CDs/postcards can be purchased from Bandcamp and at shows.
